Today I ran a local event in our town. It was inaugral event. There was a ten miler and 5k run. It was a small event. They capped the event to 250 runners for both events.
It was a very cold morning. No sun in sight. Before the run even started you could see all the runners trying to keep their bodies warm by moving around. I debated if I should wear my jacket or not,but at the end I decided not to wear it. Which was good because you forget how much you warm up once you get moving.
The course was we were running was on our local trails.
(all ready to start)
I ran way too fast out of the gate.
Here are my splits:
1km 6:11
2km 6:26
3km 6:41
4km 6:51
5km 6:48
total time: 32:58
I have never ran a pace of 6:11, no wonder I was dying after the first 2km.
I am pretty happy with my time even though I got really tired at in the middle of it, but I just kept pushing myself. I took a few 30 second walk breaks.
Hopefully my next 5km race I can get in between 30-32mins.
(Here I come)
Post race thoughts:
No water given out on the course. I did have my fuel belt but sometimes it easier to grab and run instead of grabbing from your own fuel belt.
No post race food? WTF? Usually you have something for us runners.
Nice medal at the end. Maybe they subbed the food for the medal?
On to the next race, probably next year!
